In Relation #4 Sculptural Mirror Collection 2020
This is the 4th of a set of 6 sculptural wall mirrors I made in the fall of 2020.
13" x 16" and approx 2" deep (off the wall) at the highest points, framed in a found wooden frame.
The series explores the self and other through the positioning of one or two mirror circles in relation to one another. It's an opportunity for me to consider the movements and emotions that have come up living with one other person in quarantine; the leaning in, the solitude, the pushing away, the simple being.
Always when I work with mirror, I find myself reflecting on perception; specifically, I am interested in the differences between the way we see ourselves, we want ourselves to be seen, we think we are seen, and how each other person sees us. The relationships between each of these ways of perceiving leave lots of gaps to jump with our imagination. This line of thought drives my sculptural mirror process. I do not make patterns when making work; I let myself find flow by creating a pallet of shapes and colors and arranging them like river stones.
I welcome custom mirror requests as well.
