Collection: Wall Weaves
The sculptures in this collection are lightweight and hang from the wall from finishing nails.
Weave has an allegorical function throughout my work— it references the body, societal fabric, records, domestic labor, illusion and the veil between realities.
To make woven glass, I first pull the strands of glass (cane) with the help of others. 'Harvesting' cane is a slow, communal process that belies the moods we are in each work day. Sometimes it pulls thick and sometimes thin, reflection of our conscious and subconscious gestures. I form the cane in a series of kiln firings that culminates in opening the kiln while hot and manipulating the weave by (gloved) hand.
