Four Part Tatami
Four Part Tatami
kiln formed glass
5" x 5" x 13"
Inspired by Japanese Tatami broom form and ceremonial functions. This broom is easy to identify as a vessel. It is ventricular and of the sea, a filtering container that continues to gather.
As with many of the broom forms in this collection, to achieve the texture of this sculpture I sifted glass powder onto kiln shelves and repeatedly fired them until the desired texture was achieved (the holes in the thin glass grow larger with each firing).
