Demesne
Demesne
kiln formed glass, wood frame
36" x 16"
One definition of demesne is: a part or portion having no fixed boundaries.
To create the top of this broom, I carved the texture into clay, then made a wax positive of it, then made a plaster-silica mold from the wax. I make glass powder by drizzling molten glass into cold water, collecting the thin strands, and crushing them. I sifted the powder over the plaster mold and kiln fired it, then removed the plaster and re-fired the base with hand-pulled glass cane (the 'bristles). I then manipulated the glass while it was hot to create this form. I made all of the frames in this collection with Southern Pine.
